Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- Food coloring (optional)
- Fondant or buttercream for decoration
- Graduation-themed cake toppers
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth.
- If desired, divide the batter into separate bowls and add food coloring to create layers of different colors.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the cakes with buttercream or cover with fondant. Decorate with graduation-themed toppers and any additional decorations you desire.
Notes
- For a more personalized touch, consider adding the graduate’s name or graduation year in fondant or edible writing.
- You can create a tiered cake by stacking multiple layers and securing them with dowels for support.
- Experiment with different flavors for the cake, such as chocolate, red velvet, or lemon for a unique twist.
