Description

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a stunning cake that’s easy to make and perfect for the occasion. This recipe features vibrant colors and flavors that embody the spirit of the holiday.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (red, green, yellow)
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Fresh fruit for decoration (optional)
  • Edible flowers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter into three bowls. Use food coloring to dye one bowl red, one bowl green, and leave one bowl plain.
  7. Spoon the colored batters into the prepared pans, alternating colors for a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, frost the cakes with buttercream frosting. Decorate with fresh fruit and edible flowers as desired.
