Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in flour until mixture forms a ball.
  3. Let the dough cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip.
  4. Heat oil for frying in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Pipe 4-6 inch lengths of dough into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  6. Remove churros from oil and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a shallow bowl, mix 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Roll churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture while still warm.
  8. Serve warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.
