Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- for frying vegetable oil
- 1 cup dark chocolate
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball. Let it cool for a few minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth and slightly glossy.
- In a shallow dish, mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon for coating.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe 4-6 inch strips of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove churros from oil and drain on paper towels. Immediately roll in cinnamon sugar.
- For the dipping sauce, melt dark chocolate in a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
- Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For a crispier churro, fry at a slightly higher temperature.
- You can add more cinnamon to the sugar coating for extra flavor.
- Churros are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
