Description
A fresh and zesty seafood dish, ceviche is made by marinating raw fish in citrus juices, resulting in a flavorful and refreshing appetizer or main course.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Fresh fish fillets (Firm white fish like snapper or tilapia is recommended.)
- 1/2 cup Lime juice (Freshly squeezed for best flavor.)
- 1 small Red onion (Thinly sliced.)
- 1 medium Tomato (Diced.)
- 1/4 cup Fresh cilantro (Chopped.)
- 1 small Jalapeño pepper (Seeded and minced (adjust to taste).)
- to taste Salt
- 1 Avocado (Diced, for garnish (optional).)
- for serving Tortilla chips
Instructions
- Cut the fish into small, bite-sized pieces and place in a glass or ceramic bowl.
- Pour lime juice over the fish, ensuring all pieces are submerged. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour, or until the fish is opaque and ‘cooked’ by the acidity of the juice.
- Add the sliced red onion, diced tomato, chopped cilantro, minced jalapeño, and salt to the marinated fish. Stir gently to combine.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Serve immediately, garnished with diced avocado and accompanied by tortilla chips.
Notes
- For best results, use the freshest fish available.
- Ceviche can be served as an appetizer or a main dish.
- Feel free to add other ingredients like cucumber or mango for extra flavor and texture.
