Description

Juicy, flavorful chicken cooked on a grill with a can of beer for moisture and flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 45 lbs)
  • 1 can of beer (your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (like rosemary or thyme) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F).
  2. Remove the giblets from the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, making sure to coat it evenly.
  5. Open the can of beer and take a few sips to create space (or pour out a little beer).
  6. Insert the beer can into the cavity of the chicken, making sure it fits snugly.
  7. Stand the chicken upright on the grill, using the legs for support.
  8. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  9. Carefully remove the chicken from the grill, allow it to rest for 10 minutes, then remove the beer can.
  10. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve.
