  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Tender, juicy pulled pork cooked low and slow and smothered in tangy BBQ sauce. Perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or on its own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds pork shoulder (also known as pork butt)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Buns for serving (optional)
  • Coleslaw for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
  4. Place the pork shoulder in a roasting pan or a large Dutch oven. Cover tightly with foil or a lid.
  5. Cook in the preheated oven for about 4 to 5 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender and easily pulls apart.
  6. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes. Then, shred the pork using two forks.
  7. Mix in the BBQ sauce until the pork is well coated.
  8. Serve on buns with coleslaw if desired.

Notes

  • For added flavor, marinate the pork overnight in the spice rub.
  • You can also cook the pork shoulder in a slow cooker on low for 8 hours.
  • Leftover pork can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
