This BBQ brisket recipe delivers tender, flavorful meat with a rich smoky flavor, perfect for your next barbecue or family gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4–5 lbs beef brisket
- 2 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your smoker or grill to 225°F (107°C).
- In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
- Trim any excess fat from the brisket, leaving about 1/4 inch for flavor.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
- Place the brisket in the smoker or grill, fat side up, and add wood chips for smoke flavor (hickory or mesquite recommended).
- Smoke the brisket for about 1.5 hours per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 195°F (90°C).
- During the last hour of smoking, baste the brisket with beef broth and then with BBQ sauce.
- Once done, remove the brisket from the smoker, wrap it in foil, and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
- Slice against the grain and serve with additional BBQ sauce on the side.
Notes
- For best results, choose a well-marbled brisket for extra flavor and tenderness.
- Letting the brisket rest is crucial for juicy slices.
- Feel free to experiment with your favorite BBQ sauce or spice rub.
