Banana Foster: 5 Steps to a Decadent Dessert Delight

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A classic dessert made with ripe bananas and a rich, buttery sauce that is flambéed for an incredible finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 1/4 cup banana liqueur
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving
  • Chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the brown sugar and cinnamon, and stir until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.
  3. Add the sliced bananas to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing them to soften slightly.
  4. Carefully add the dark rum and banana liqueur to the skillet.
  5. Using a long lighter or match, ignite the sauce to flambé. Allow the flames to subside as the alcohol cooks off.
  6. Once the flames are out, remove the skillet from heat.
  7. Serve the banana foster immediately over scoops of vanilla ice cream, and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.

Notes

  • Make sure to use a long lighter for safety when flambéing.
  • You can substitute the dark rum with a different type of spirit if preferred.
  • Serve immediately for the best flavor and presentation.
